French soldiers will not be sent to fight in Ukraine in the foreseeable future, French President Emmanuel Macron said.

“I don’t think the war will come to our territory, I want to assure you. I assure you that we will not engage in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine as early as tomorrow,” he said on the “Generation – DIY” podcast.

The French president said he understands the concerns of those who fear that the conflict could spread to France, AFP reported.

After the conference on Ukraine in Paris on February 26, Macron stated that the participants considered sending ground troops to Ukraine.

No consensus was reached then, but he left the door open for such a scenario in the future. He later reiterated that the issue of sending troops to Ukraine could be raised again if Kiev requests it in case “Russian forces break through the front line”.

“Mond” later announced that Macron is trying to form an EU coalition to send military instructors to Ukraine.
