Magazinovic said to MEPs: Every Day, Citizens ask if there will be a War

At the invitation of Pedro Marques, Vice President of the S&D Group in the European Parliament, the head of the SDP Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) parliamentary group in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament Sasa Magazinovic held a briefing for the members of the European Parliament (MEPs) on current political and security challenges in BiH.

“The state parliament is not functioning, the BiH presidency is not functioning, nor is the state government. As Dodik promised, these bodies make decisions only when it means benefits for the Republika Srpska (RS), and that mainly concerns money transactions. The abolition of the Armed Forces (AF) is announced, unconstitutional laws and decisions are made, hate speech is used, “ he said.

“Citizens are asking every day if a new war will happen. They are frustrated and scared. Many of them are thinking about leaving BiH. Business people are stopping their investments, and investors from abroad are almost non-existent,” he continued.

Meanwhile, instead of emphasizing the unblocking of institutions and the annulment of unconstitutional laws and decisions of the National Assembly of RS (NARS), as the High Representative assessed, the pressure on political actors is being directed towards changing the election law.

“It is interesting that the representatives of the international community are also insisting on changing the election law at the moment. The SDP has taken the position that it will not participate in talks on changing the election law until the institutions are unblocked and unconstitutional decisions and laws are withdrawn,” Magazinovic told.

MEPs Dietmar Koster, Tanja Fajon, Thijs Reuten, Delara Burkhardt, Bettina Vollath, Tonino Picula, and Andreas Schieder also commented on the situation in BiH. They supported the fight for BiH as a community of equal citizens and a state based on European values, and also announced the continuation of their engagement for the benefit of the citizens and the state of BiH.
