Mahir Mirvić, a returnee to Novo Goražde, claims that during the night the police officers took away the flag of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina with lilies, which he displayed on his house, and because of that they handed him a misdemeanor order and imposed a fine of 100 BAM.
As he told Klix.ba, police officers from the Novo Goražde station came in front of his family home last night at 2:25 a.m. while he was watching the game of the BiH national team against the United States.
Mirvić says that he displayed the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the flag of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina with lilies on the house, after which the police officers demanded that he remove the flag with lilies.
In the misdemeanor order, which we had access to, it was stated that Mirvić violated public order and peace by displaying the national symbol in the form of two flags with lilies on his house, which, according to the police, caused a feeling of agitation among the citizens.
In addition to a fine of 100 BAM, he was also handed a certificate of temporary confiscation of the item.
“I went out to the terrace to ask what the problem was, and I was told that the reason was precisely that flag. As a returnee to Novo Goražde and a member of a martyr’s family, I find this event very difficult. In 2022, my child was the first after the war to be registered in the birth register as a Bosniak in this municipality. We have returned to our ancestral home and we just want to live peacefully and with dignity,” said Mirvić.
He adds that this is not the first time he has faced a similar situation, but that it is the third such case.
“I am particularly pained by the silence of our political representatives from Novi Goražde, i.e. Kopač. I believe that the citizens deserve to speak clearly about such events and to protect the rights of all returnees, regardless of their nationality,” said Mirvić, assessing that it was obvious intimidation of returnees.
