Newly elected mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, stated that he will not accept any conversation that would be to the detriment of the residents of the city.

“I am further interested in a conversation with President Trump about the possibilities of cooperation in the service of the residents of New York, whether it concerns fulfilling his campaign promises about the cost of living or the many other issues that citizens have presented to me,” Mamdani told reporters.

At the same time, he emphasized that he will strongly oppose any conversation that could harm the residents of New York.

“If it is a conversation that would be to their detriment, I will fight against it with all my strength, because my job is to serve this city,” he said.

Criticism of the Republican blockade

Mamdani criticized the Republican blockade of resolving the problems of the working class, saying that it is not enough just to “diagnose the cross,” but that it is also necessary to offer solutions.

“The Republicans across the country are afraid of the fact that we will actually implement this agenda, and that contrast is difficult for them to accept,” he said.

Fight against antisemitism

He emphasized that he takes the issue of antisemitism very seriously and promised that his administration will “stand firmly with Jewish New Yorkers in the fight against the spread of antisemitism in the city.”

“We will work together not only to protect ourselves but also to celebrate and appreciate that community,” he added.

Mamdani also underlined the importance of the rule of law, stressing that “everyone will be equal before the law.”

“Our administration will bring an era of consistency, clarity, and conviction, at a time when there are misconceptions that some are allowed to break the law,” said the newly elected mayor.

Transition of power

It was also announced that cooperation with the administration of current mayor Eric Adams will be directed toward a “smooth and orderly assumption of duties.”

The transition process is led by Elana Leopold, whose experience includes work in city administration.

The representative of the organization, United Way, Grace Bonilla, emphasized that in this case, Melanie Hartzog is doing an excellent job.
