Marine Le Pen after Defeat: Our Victory was only delayed

The unofficial leader of the far-right National Assembly (RN) party, Marine LePen, who is on course to take only third place in the French parliamentary elections, said it was the result of tactical voting by the left.

Preliminary results from the second round of French parliamentary elections show the National Assembly behind the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) coalition and President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist camp, even though the National Assembly was leading in polls ahead of Sunday’s election.

Le Pen said that she saw the seeds of future victory in the result.

“Our victory has only been delayed,” she told TF1 TV, adding that “Macron is now in an unsustainable situation.”

Let’s recall that, although they expected a huge victory, the National Assembly managed to win only between 132 and 152 out of 570 mandates, which is a big drop.

The left gathered around the New Popular Front won, according to preliminary results, between 172 and 192 mandates, while the Ensemble, a coalition gathered around the Renaissance party, led by President Macron, won between 150 and 170 seats.

As all the parties refused to cooperate with the National Assembly before the elections, negotiations for the formation of a government between the New Popular Front and the Ensemble will probably open now, and together they have enough for power.
