The Head of the Council of Europe in BiH Mary Ann Hennessey visited the BiH Prosecutor’s Office and met with the head Prosecutor Goran Salihović. The goal is a better solution for improving enforcement and improvement in cooperation of institutions in BiH.

One of the main topics of the meeting was related to the problems regarding non-compliance with the BiH Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights, given that non-compliance to these decisions could represent a criminal offense.

During today’s meeting they agreed that representatives of the BiH Constitutional Court would hold a meeting to solve these types of problems.

Also, at the meeting they discussed the judicial aspects of the performance and responsibility in connection with the practical implications of the “Sejdić-Finci” ruling.

The Head of the Council of Europe in BiH praised the selection of the Chief Prosecutor of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (VSTV) BiH as one of the positive examples of the implementation of the “Sejdić-Finci” ruling.

The Chief Prosecutor spoke with Hennessey about the work of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, including the activities that are carried out with the aim of ensuring the adequate capacity of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office and strengthening of the prosecution. They also spoke about the support the Prosecutor’s Office received from the Council of Europe and the European Commission.

At the meeting they discussed the current activities of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office, whose aim is to strengthen cooperation with agencies to implement law in the region, as well as priorities and activities in the fight against organized crime, economic crime and corruption and accelerating work in the prosecution of war crimes.

Officials of the Council of Europe have expressed support in the work of the BiH Prosecutor’s Office in the process of establishing the rule of law, which is an extremely important element in the process of European integration of BiH, and in particular they offered the support of strengthening cooperation between the Prosecutor’s office in BiH, Serbia and Croatia.
