During the meeting they spoke of the continuation of good partnership relations between the City of Sarajevo and the EU Delegation to BiH.
“I am extremely pleased that the EU is participating in the project of reconstruction of the Sarajevo City Hall’’, said Ambassador Sorensen.
They discussed the renewal of the Trebević cable car, of the international manifestation “Sarajevo-European Bridge of Culture 2014”, which will mark the 100th anniversary from the beginning of the First World War, and of preparations of a business plan and development of the tourist potential of Sarajevo.
The Mayor of Sarajevo thanked the EU for their financial support, especially when it comes to the project of reconstruction of the Sarajevo City Hall.
“Thanks to our efforts and support of a number of friends, countries and cities, among which is the EU, this symbol of Sarajevo will very soon be returned to a new, renewed state’’, added Mayor Komšić.
After the reception, Ambassador Sorensen visited City Hail accompanied by city officials, where works are underway in the fourth and final phase of the project of reconstruction of this important cultural-historical monument of Sarajevo and BiH.
The goal of the visit was to inform about the dynamics of working on the realization of the implementation of the agreement between the EU Deelgation in BiH and company contractors-“Unigradnja” d.d. Sarajevo and a company that supervises the works-“Safege”, and beneficiaries of the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs and Sarajevo City.
This agreement, which was signed at the beginning of March last year, was granted 5 million euros from IPA funds of the EU, dedicated to the implementation of IV phase of reconstruction, which includes plumbing, plaster and paint, and other works on the interior of the building.
The EU until now has invested more than 8 million euros in the reconstruction of the City Hall.
