He stressed that targeting and abusing individual journalists or media houses demeans the democratic institutions of this country.
It is disconcerting how there seems to be a lack of understanding of the distinction between state media – which BiH does not have – and public service media, which has the right to editorial independence.
“Ensuring freedom of expression and freedom of media are major priorities for the European Union (EU) and, as part of the Copenhagen political criteria, a key aspect of the EU integration process of the Western Balkans countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. Free and professional media is non-negotiable for the EU,” underlined McGuffie, said the EUD/EUSR to BiH in the press release.
