Meeting At BHANSA With Minister Of Transport And Communications Edin Forto

The Minister of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Edin Forto, yesterday held a working meeting in Sarajevo with the Management of the BiH Air Navigation Services Agency (BHANSA). The meeting was also attended by representatives of area control, with the aim of exchanging views and jointly defining solutions for current challenges in the Agency’s operations.

During the discussion, the concept of the minimum work process was considered – an operational level that BHANSA must ensure even in extraordinary circumstances such as sick leave, technical issues, or strikes. Analyses of possible financial consequences of limited capacity were also presented: according to estimates, a reduction in operations of only 10% during peak periods could result in losses exceeding 5 million BAM, while greater disruptions could, in the long term, lead to the redirection of air traffic outside the territory of BiH.

“Safe and reliable air traffic is the foundation of our connectivity with Europe and the world and is of strategic importance for the entire country. That is why it is important that, through professional and open dialogue within the system, capacities are continuously strengthened and working conditions improved. I am convinced that with joint efforts, we can maintain the high standards that citizens and international partners expect. At the same time, we are aware of the serious challenges caused by the account freeze due to the Viaduct case, and therefore, the Ministry is in constant communication with all relevant actors in order to eliminate the consequences as soon as possible and ensure the financial stability of the system,” said Minister Forto.

With the aim of stabilizing operations and maintaining continuity of services, BHANSA presented a comprehensive Action Plan, a set of short-term and long-term activities focused on strengthening internal capacities and operational organization. Among the key proposals are regulatory changes, alignment of the minimum work process, and the formation of an expert team to optimize sector configurations and personnel availability.

The meeting confirmed a joint commitment to maintaining a high level of operational reliability and professional standards in the field of air navigation services. As established, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of BiH remains a strong partner in the process of stabilizing and modernizing the system, with a clear goal – to ensure that BiH retains its reputation as a reliable and safe airspace in the region and beyond.
