Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović held a meeting with the Minister for Europe at the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of France Benjamin Haddad.
As reported by his office, Bećirović pointed out that the weakening of two key institutions established by the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement must not be allowed at any cost: the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Office of the High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“These two institutions are key guardians of peace and stability. In this sense, Bećirović emphasized that any weakening of the institution of the High Representative could lead to catastrophic consequences,” the statement said.
No one has the right to agree to the frivolous arguments of the leaders of the Bosnian entity of RS and their mentors outside the borders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who say that the High Representative threatens the sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The sovereignty of our state is only threatened by separatist politicians in the entity of RS, and the whole world should know that, Bećirović underlined.
Bećirović added that “the attack on the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the foundations of the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement is still ongoing.”
“The leadership of the Bosnian and Herzegovina entity of RS continues to threaten the difficultly established peace and security in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Such irresponsible and dangerous policies carry with them incalculable consequences, not only for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also for the stability of the entire region. He referred to the latest activities of the Republika Srpska regarding the formation of a reserve police force, assessing it as a serious threat to peace and stability,” the office of the member of the BiH Presidency announced.
Bećirović thanked the French minister for France’s continued support for Bosnia and Herzegovina on its path towards full membership in NATO and the European Union (EU).
On the other hand, Haddad said that France, as a witness to the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement, strongly supports the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
He stressed that it is important to protect the constitutional order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, peace and stability in our country, and that France will resolutely oppose any separatist activities of the leadership of the RS entity. During the meeting, Minister Haddad pointed out the importance of intensifying European and Euro-Atlantic integration, accelerating reform processes and implementing the Growth Plan.
“The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and France to date, and emphasized the importance of improving interstate relations, with the aim of strengthening the stability, security and progress of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. They also discussed the upcoming meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron,” Bećirović’s office announced.
Finally, it was said that Bećirović thanked Minister Haddad for attending the commemoration on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the genocide against Bosniaks in the “United Nations Safe Area in Srebrenica”, and for the strong messages from French President Emmanuel Macron, which the minister read on that occasion.
