Members of Council of National Minorities in BiH Spoke With the UN Special Rapporteur in the Field of Cultural Rights

zziChairperson Nedžad Jusić and members of the Council of National Minorities of BiH Jovanka Manzalović-Šalaka, Tihomir Knežiček, Halil Bicaj, Hakan Varan, Neđeljko Tomašević, as well as Chairperson of the Roma Council of Ministers of BIH Indira Bajramović, spoke yesterday in Sarajevo with the UN Special Rapporteur in the area of cultural rights Farid Shaheed.

Rapporteur Shaheed expressed interest in the inclusion of cultural heritage of national minorities in textbooks, their presence in the media, effects of the introduction of religious education in schools and the implementation of “Sejdić-Finci“.

Representatives of the BIH Council of National Minorities pointed out that the issues of conservation and protection of cultural heritage of national minorities in BiH have not been systematically addressed, and that this area in practice has been mostly realized through activities of national minority associations.

During the meeting they said that it would be good to admit a paragraph in the budget of the relevant ministry tied to the preservation of the cultural identity of national minorities, announced the BiH Parliament.
