Mayor of Brčko Anto Domić signed today a Memorandum on Cooperation between UNDP and Brčko District Government concerning the projects ”Transitional justice- structure of facts and protection of memories”.
Representatives of Government, NGOs and Judiciary are attending the two day conference concerning this issue in order to clarify the truth of the past war in order to strengthen the trust and coexistence among peoples.
Domić noted that Brčko District has suffered significant demographic changes and that this pilot project is very important.
”We have the opportunity to speak openly about that time, suffering and everything we carry in ourselves which reminds us on that period. The aim is to jointly find way to make the reality and future much better and to ensure that future generations don’t carry with them the burden of the past. We should create unity from our diversities’’, said Domić.
Main expert advisor of UNDP BiH Thomas Osorio said that this project was enabled by true cooperation of families whose loved ones are missing or have died in the war.
Osorio said: ”The main precondition for strengthening the coexistence, with respect to war facts and the right to remember, is actually in telling the truth and taking into consideration the opinions of all sides, but also punishing those who committed crimes.”
