On the occasion of May 5th, the Day of Remembrance for the children of the besieged Sarajevo killed in the period 1992 to 1995, a memorial plaque was placed in front of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in Washington.
Next to the memorial plaque, a mournful willow was planted as a sign of permanent memory of the 1,601 children killed during the siege of the capital of BiH.
”The goal of placing this memorial plaque in front of the Embassy of BiH in Washington, in the immediate vicinity of the United States (U.S.) Department of Foreign Affairs (State Department), is to serve as an eternal reminder and sad memory of the murdered children of our capital, but also of all the children who were murdered during the aggression against BiH, so that such crimes would never happen again, ” said BiH Ambassador Sven Alkalaj.
