Bihać’s Merhamet prepares more than 300 meals for regular users every day. That figure is occasionally increasing, and new users are also visiting them. The concern that no one remains hungry this year also encouraged them to make and distribute food packages for over 350 families, on the occasion of the Muslim month of Ramadan.
Preparing hundreds of meals every day has become a routine for Merhamet from Bihac. With donations, they prepare hot and fresh meals for their users throughout the year. In the days of Ramadan, something is different. There are fasting people, and whole families. For them – packages.
“We planned to distribute over 3,500 iftars in the area of Bihać, and of course during Ramadan there will be individual visits to the most vulnerable of our fellow citizens,” says Fikret Draganović, president of Bihać Merhamet.
The sizes and amounts of the packages, as well as the users who come to this kitchen, have changed over the years. However, there are also those who are permanent. Zrinko Mujanović and Asima Šekerić have been coming for years, and this help, they say, is invaluable beyond Ramadan.
The distributed packages cost 70 marks, and the total value of the donation is about 25 thousand marks. From Merhamet, they say, they rely only on their work and the good will of donors, and even though their opportunities are sometimes limited – they do not give up because they are aware that, in these times, many would not be able to do without them.
