Meta under Criticism for allegedly sharing Facebook Users’ Private Messages with Netflix

Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is facing criticism for allegedly sharing users’ private messages with Netflix.

Documents filed in a lawsuit against Meta in the United States (U.S.) reportedly claim that the company gave Netflix access to private messages of Facebook users over a period of about ten years.

The revelation sparked outrage online over the alleged sharing of Facebook user messages with Netflix. It’s purportedly a “deal” worth hundreds of millions of dollars between Meta and the streaming company.

Meta’s Director of Communications, Andy Stone, posted on the X platform that private messages were not shared with Netflix.

Stone stated that the agreement between Netflix and Meta allowed users to share the content they watched on the Netflix app directly with their Facebook friends and emphasized that such agreements are common in the industry.
