An agreement was reached at a meeting of representatives of the miners’ union of the Zenica Brown Coal Mine (RMU) with representatives of the ministry and the Electric Power Company. The miners are ending their hunger strike, but will not continue working until they are paid their salaries, which are expected to be paid by the end of this week.
Eight members of the Trade Union Board of the Zenica Brown Coal Mine (RMU) have been on a hunger strike in the Miners’ House building since Thursday, where they have gathered to protest unpaid salaries and the delays in the mine’s closure process.
The demands for ending the strike were the continuity of salary payments, in this case salaries for July and August, as well as social care for the remaining employees.
The Zenica RMU currently has 512 employees, of which about 200 are employed, while about 300 people are on temporary leave and are entitled to compensation in the amount of the minimum wage in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is 1,000 BAM.
The retirement funds of 24 workers have been secured, but due to slow procedures they have not yet received their pensions, for which they have been waiting for 15-16 months.
This year, about 20 more chambers will meet the retirement requirements.
