Minister of Internal Affairs: We took all Security Measures within our Jurisdiction

Immediately after learning about the unfortunate events in Serbia, we took all security measures within our jurisdiction, Ramo Isak, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Federation of BiH, told BHT1 live, commenting on the recent two mass murders in neighboring Serbia recorded in just two days.

“We held a working meeting and determined what should be done by the cantonal ministries, i.e. the cantonal police administration. The federal police administration is fully available, so we can say that the situation is satisfactory and that all authorities have taken all the necessary measures were necessary for our citizens to be safe in the territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Isak.

As the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina points out, most of the work was done on the initiative.

“We mainly worked on prevention, the supervision of police work in schools was increased. We had a weekend behind us and in a way we were afraid that there would be some incidents in certain cities. Young people go out, alcohol is consumed… We demanded in all cantons that stronger measures should be taken, that the police should be more on the ground, that stronger and better controls should be carried out. We have information that the weekend passed without major incidents.”

Social networks are also monitored

When it comes to social networks, Ramo Isak states that this area is also under special supervision.

“You saw the case in the Una-Sana Canton and the quality of the work of the Federal Police Administration and the Cantonal Administration, it immediately gave results – deprivation of liberty and everything that was necessary. Among other things, there were several similar incidents in other cities, but we successfully responded to the task and took all necessary measures.”

Parents are key in this process

The most important segment in all this is prevention, which means that we have to act preventively, Isak believes.

“We must educate, and we must also influence our youth, as well as parents. If you notice certain things, that they take certain measures, that they pay more attention to behaviors that go beyond certain procedures, in that case, we advise you to contact the authorities immediately. Always it is better to solve something preventively so that some unpleasant event does not happen, than to have what happened in Serbia happen, so you can see for yourself what the consequences are. Prevention is the most important thing. The second thing is that we must have quality cooperation between the Cantonal and Federal administration of the police, we need to provide some additional resources that are needed to be able to fully monitor the wider picture. We will create some more departments that will pay specialist attention to such things so that some unfortunate event does not happen that would have the consequences of what we have have had lately.”

He claims that after assuming the new position of Minister of Internal Affairs of the Federation of BiH, he found a “difficult situation.”

“I found a very difficult situation, because today the mandate of the deputy of the Federal Police Administration also expires. I am actually forced to appoint the acting director, not me, but the Government to appoint a person for a certain period until the end of the competition procedure. We must speed up the parliaments to form an independent committee, so that it can as soon as possible announce a competition for the selection and proposal of a candidate who meets the requirements. There is a lot of work ahead of us. Soon we will answer all the tasks in full.”
