The 20th edition of the selection of the best athlete of Bosnia and Herzegovina was held in Sarajevo on Monday evening, organized by Nezavisne novine and Radio-Television of BiH.

The best athlete in our country for 2020 is the football representative of BiH, Miralem Pjanic. Pjanic played 98 games for the national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina and scored 15 goals.

He is currently player of Barcelona, and in his career, he has also played for Metz, Olympique Lyon, Roma and Juventus.

“Thank you all for the Athlete of the Year award, of course, I’m very glad I got it. I thank all those who chose, as well as the national team and the club. It was a very successful season with Juventus, and moving to Barcelona is certainly the crown of my career and something phenomenal. I hope there will be a lot of success in the future. This will be another motive for me to work better and be an example to our children in BiH, so that one day they will be in the national team and the biggest clubs in the world. This award will have a special place in my house, “said Pjanic.

Apart from Pjanić, basketball player Jusuf Nurkić and handball player Benjamin Burić competed for the best athlete. Former selector of the “U-17” national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sakib Malkočević, who passed away this year, was posthumously awarded a lifetime achievement award.

As a selector BH cadets, Malkočević has qualified for the European Championship three times in a row. The best athlete in BiH this year is basketball player Marica Gajić, while the women’s basketball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina was named the best team.
