Former EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and former Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini said she had clarified her position regarding a corruption investigation in Brussels, in which she is accused of fraud.
She is accused of illegal actions in her employment at the College of Europe, where she served as rector.
“Regarding the process of establishing the EU Diplomatic Academy, I have clarified my position with the investigators acting on behalf of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office,” Mogherini told ANSA.
She added that the EU Diplomatic Academy “in its long tradition, has always applied and will continue to apply the highest standards of integrity and fairness.”
“I have full confidence in the judicial system and I am confident that the correctness of the College’s actions will be verified. Of course, I will continue to cooperate fully with the authorities,” she said.
Mogherini and former Secretary-General of the European External Action Service Stefano Sannino have been charged with misuse of EU funds, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office announced earlier.
