That is a conclusion of the roundtable “Every child needs a family”, which was held in the EU Info Center in Sarajevo in the organization of UNICEF BiH and the Foundation Infohouse.
This event gathered children and potential foster families, as well as representatives of the system for social protection and NGO’s, and it represented a great opportunity to discuss different aspects that are related to the status of children without parental care or children that are at risk of losing parental care.
“The campaign itself “Every child needs a family,” is focused at potential foster parents, and its main aim is to get people interested in the project,” said Head of the UNICEF campaign “Every child needs a family” Nineta Popovic, and she added that the family represents the most optimal environment for normal growth and development of children.
Also, the Head of EU Delegation in BiH and EUSR, Jamila Milovic Halilovic, noted the importance of adequate care for children without parental care, and she added that the EU is one of the partners of the aforementioned project. The EU funds its realization with the amount of around one million EUR.
She also emphasized that children are one of the most vulnerable parts of every society and that every child has the right to family and she also recalled that here were about 200 foster families at the beginning of the project, but now there are about 400 of them, which represents a great incentive for even stronger engagement of everyone who are involved in the aforementioned activities.
