Israeli strikes killed at least 73 people in the northern Gaza town of Beit Lahia, authorities in the Hamas-run strip said.
Dozens of others were injured and many were still trapped under rubble after the attack late Saturday night, officials added.
Israel said it was verifying reports of casualties, but accused Hamas authorities of sharing “exaggerated” information that did not match information held by its military.
Fighting continues in Lebanon as well. Israel launched another round of airstrikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs, and residents of two neighborhoods were ordered to evacuate.
Israel says its air force has struck “around 175 terrorist targets” in Gaza and Lebanon over the past day, the BBC reports.
