Mostar Protestors Announce Civil Disobedience and New Demands to Government

prosvjedi_mostarNot satisfied with the decision of the collegiate of the Assembly of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNŽ), which is expected to discuss only two of the demands of the Plenum of the citizens of Mostar at the next assembly meeting, Mostar citizens announced new demands and absolute civil disobedience.

The collegiate of the Assembly scheduled a meeting for 28 February, where two demands will be placed on the agenda, of the four demands of the citizens. This is the adoption of the Law on Social Protection, Protection of Civilian War Victims and Families with Children of HNŽ, and the official report of the Ministry of Interior on the protests in Mostar and activities it undertook in the assessment of the security situation in the HNŽ, as well as the names of all people who were detained for questioning and who were fined, or if a criminal proceeding was brought against them.

However, at the session the demand on abolishing benefits to politicians will not be found. It was demanded that their salaries be harmonized with the average salaries of workers.

The application of the Law on Social Protection and the abolition of benefits to politicians have to go together, because the money that would remain from reducing the salaries of politicians would go to social funds, said the Spokesperson of the Plenum of citizens of Mostar Feđa Fajić. He added that by not including all the demands at the next session, they showed that they have absolutely no feeling for citizens.

‘’We will no longer have any feelings for them or their positions, and we say that they can expect different ways of protesting. If we have to, we will stand for five years on Spanish Square and protest every day until our demands are met’’, said Fajić.
