The commitment of the United States to the territorial integrity, sovereignty and multi-ethnic character of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its integration into the Euro-Atlantic institutions has never been stronger, US Ambassador Michael Murphy said this evening in Sarajevo at a formal reception to mark the American holiday, Independence Day on July 4.
In his speech, he warned that today in Bosnia and Herzegovina there are political leaders “who seek to destroy what we have built together, who attack the fundamental rights and freedoms of their voters, who put their corrupt interests ahead of the prosperity of the people they claim to represent, who tear the fabric of BiH .societies engaging in divisive politics instead of trying to heal the wounds of the past and who intended to tear up the Dayton Peace Agreement”.
“This jeopardizes the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the opportunity provided by the EU’s decision to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina. We were there to help rebuild Bosnia and Herzegovina and we will not allow anyone to tear it down or destroy it,” emphasized Murphy.
He said that he was proud of the work that his team in Sarajevo, Banja Luka and Mostar had done in order to give this policy a concrete, tangible meaning for the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“I promise that we will continue to work tirelessly to build a future in which all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina can progress, and that we will confront the numerous challenges that the country is currently facing. Bosnia and Herzegovina has no greater friend and more devoted partner than the United States of America,” concluded Murphy, Fena writes.
