Member of the partisan movement and prominent antifascist Nadja Biser-Taso passed away at the age of 102.
Numerous officials paid tribute to her on social media, and a message was also issued by the SDP of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
“A heroine has left us, a partisan, a SKOJ member, and a woman from whom much could be learned. Our dear Nadja Biser-Taso. Eternal glory and thanks to you, dear comrade Nadja!” they stated.
Nijaz Skenderagic also bid farewell to Nadja Biser-Taso.
“She was in the unwavering ranks of brave antifascists who are deserving of BiH being on the right side of history. She loved to talk about how the people of Sarajevo welcomed the liberators with flowers on April 6th, 1945, and how trams were already running again just two days after the liberation of the city. I had the honor and pleasure of knowing her for almost 50 years. She always believed in young people and fought for them to be given a chance. Eternal glory and thanks to you, comrade Nadja,” he said.
In 2017, Nadja Biser-Taso spoke about the Drvar landing and has remained to this day the only living witness of this event.
“The course was held in a village on the outskirts of Drvar. During the day we studied, and in the evening we would go down to Drvar, which was the center of our movement and the headquarters of Comrade Tito. There was also the British military mission and representatives of the USSR who attended the congress of the antifascist youth of Yugoslavia. In the evenings we watched films. On the night before May 25th, I met a school friend who was in the District Committee, and she told me she was tired because they were preparing the celebration of Tito’s birthday and had a lot of work. In the meantime, our intelligence service learned that the Germans knew such a manifestation was being held in Drvar and were waiting for a suitable moment to act. They told us we had to get up early and be ready, in case of a landing, to defend ourselves,” Taso said at the time, Klix.ba writes.
