Wing of Zion, the Israeli version of the US presidential plane Air Force One, took off from Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Friday morning as Israel launched an attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, Hebrew-language media reported.
The plane, the official means of transport for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog during their international trips, headed to Athens on Friday morning “out of fear of possible Iranian retaliation,” The Jerusalem Post reported.
The plane had also previously been diverted from Nevatim Air Base, located in the northern Negev Desert, during Iran’s attack on Israel in April 2024. Shortly after Wing of Zion took off for Greece, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin said that Iran had launched more than 100 drones toward Israel.
