New economic Sanctions: Germany is suspending Projects in RS worth 105 Million Euros

Germany is suspending the preparation of four infrastructure projects in Republika Srpska (RS), worth 105 million euros, as a form of sanctions against Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency member and SNSD leader Milorad Dodik and the RS leadership, confirmed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH.

This move comes at a time of great political turbulence in BiH, and the German authorities have stated that they are following the current situation in our country with concern.

Furthermore, they pointed out that due to violations of Dayton, the Constitution and the collapse of BiH institutions, Germany is suspending the projects in RS such as Rehabilitation of HPP Trebinje, phase IV, Rehabilitation of HPP Trebinje, phase III, Windfarm Hrgud and Wastewater supply Gradiska.

They said that the moves of the National Assembly of the RS (NARS) in the past six months were unacceptable because they were aimed at weakening the state, which they assessed as “a great danger.”

The suspension will be in force until the unconstitutional decisions of the NARS are withdrawn and the blockade of state institutions is ended, they stated.

In a note submitted to BiH, the German government says that it stands firmly on the side of BiH and that it will resolutely oppose any political and economic destabilization of the state through separatist aspirations.

It should be reminded that recently the United States (U.S.) and the United Kingdom (UK) imposed sanctions on BiH Presidency member Milorad Dodik and some political officials from RS, and the High Representative of BiH Christian Schmidt warned that the moves of the RS authorities could lead to new economic sanctions.
