The European Parliament has voted to impose new safeguard tariffs on imports of agricultural products and fertilisers from Russia and Belarus, despite opposition from European farmers who fear a sharp rise in the prices of key goods.
The document on the introduction of tariffs was supported by 411 MEPs, 100 were against, and 78 abstained.
To enter into force, the decision must be approved by the European Council and published in the EU’s Official Journal, after which it can enter into force immediately.
