At the suggestion of the Agency for Food Security in BiH, and in cooperation with the relevant bodies of the entities and Brčko district BiH, the BiH Council of Ministers adopted the following rulebooks: the amendment of rule books of the use of food sweeteners, the use of activated alumina to remove fluoride from natural minerals and natural spring water, the quality of mustard and a rulebook on the amendment of a rulebook of methods to inspect sugar.
In compliance with the suggestion of the Agency, the BiH Council of Ministers until now has adopted 109 food regulations, which are based on the latest scientific findings, requirements and standards that are being applied in the European Union. Thus, this is the best way to ensure legal preconditions to achieve a high level of consumer health protection. For those working in the food industry, this allows them to have an equal position in the market.
According to the Food Act, the BiH Food and Safety Agency initiates, prepares and organizes the development in implementation of regulations of this law, with the goal to protect the interests of consumers, to enable consumers to make choices regarding the foods they consume and to protect the interests of producers.
The harmonization of legislation with EU legislation is very significant because of BiH’s fulfillment of international obligations, which arise from the Stabilization and Association Agreement and which directly affect the process of BiH accession to the EU.
