The Norwegian Police Directorate decided today to re-arm the police officers, due to frequent threats against the Muslim community.
“The Director General of Police has decided to arm the police throughout the country as of today,” the statement said.
The police added that the threats were addressed to Muslim religious communities ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebration next week.
“These are threats to mosques,” an unnamed spokesman for the Norwegian police told France Presse.
The police in that country are generally not armed, but they temporarily carried weapons from March 27 to April 2, during the Easter period, Beta reports.
