The idea that anyone in any part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, whether they belong to one of the constituent nations or the category of Others, can be characterized as an “owner” or “tenant” is very offensive and indicates a deep ignorance of the nature of this country, its history, its of religious and national diversity, but also of multigenerational coexistence that managed to overcome all horrors and wars, OHR announced.
“We witness this coexistence even today, despite all the challenges, but also despite the insulting statements of political representatives at all ends of the political spectrum, which try to deny the reality of this country and its people in favor of narratives that were used thirty years ago to demonize neighbors and justify ethnic cleansing, genocide and other crimes. Today, these statements only serve to drive away young people, the future of this country,” the statement said.
OHR says that today Bosnia and Herzegovina is a peaceful and stable country, home to all its peoples and citizens.
“Instead of making unacceptable statements, whether of a unitarist or secessionist nature, political representatives are expected to work for the equality of all, including returnees and minority communities, and for a common and prosperous future for a united Bosnia and Herzegovina. Elections are not won on hatred but on concrete changes that will improve the lives of citizens”, emphasized the OHR.
