Organizers of the Shop Boycott in BiH claim it was successful, announce new ones

An informal group of citizens who called for a boycott of shops in Bosnia and Herzegovina this week have announced that their initiative has been completely successful.

They have called for a similar action to be carried out in Bosnia and Herzegovina next Wednesday, February 5, and on Friday, February 7.

In a post on social media, the group called “Boycott BiH” stated that their call to not buy anything or visit restaurants on Friday had been completely successful, although the entity tax administrations have not published any data to confirm this. They announced that they could do so on Monday.

Larger shops in cities across BiH were full of customers on Friday, so there was no total boycott, although turnover was slightly lower than usual on Fridays.

“The media, members of the group and the employees themselves are reporting a terrible drop in turnover,” the post said, which also highlighted how citizens of BiH have united this time, regardless of their ethnic or religious affiliation.

They added that they conducted a survey in which the majority of participants supported the continuation of the boycott, so the decision was made to send a new invitation to potential buyers to refrain from shopping for two days next week, but only in large chain stores, while small shops, clothing and footwear stores, cafes and restaurants should be spared.

They are demanding a reduction in margins and prices, the elimination of monopolistic behavior, as well as a reduction in taxes and contributions, and an increase in salaries, pensions and disability benefits by 10 percent.
