OSCE Secretary General Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu is visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina, following the presentation of the annual report of the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Brian Aggeler, at the regular session of the OSCE Permanent Council in Vienna on March 27, BHRT has learned.

During the visit, Sinirlioğlu will meet with members of the BiH Presidency and Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković. The talks are expected to focus on the political situation in the country, the role of the OSCE in preserving stability and democratic processes, and the support of the international community to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

His arrival in Sarajevo comes at a time of serious constitutional crisis in the country, which was highlighted at the last session of the OSCE Permanent Council by the ambassadors of the EU, Great Britain, the USA, Canada, Switzerland, Turkey, Norway, Albania and other countries. In addition to supporting the work and mandate of the OSCE Mission to BiH, a significant part of their speeches was dedicated to condemning attempts to undermine the institutional functionality of the country.

Feridun H. Sinirlioğlu assumed the office of Secretary General of the OSCE in September 2023. Prior to that, he served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey in the interim government from August to November 2015. He is a long-time diplomat and civil servant, former Turkish Ambassador to the United Nations, and has held a number of senior positions in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including the position of Deputy Minister.
