On Sunday, Spanish King Felipe VI and top government officials were pelted with mud by people affected by recent floods.
According to Spanish media, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was evacuated after officials began walking the muddy streets of Paiporta, one of the hardest-hit areas where over 60 people lost their lives and thousands were left devastated.
Protesters shouted “Get out! Get out!” and “Murderers!” while bodyguards opened umbrellas to shield the royal family members and officials from the mud thrown by demonstrators.
King Felipe attempted multiple times to speak with residents.
Queen Letizia and Valencia’s regional president, Carlo Mazon, were among the officials visiting Paiporta.
In affected areas, many people are still without drinking water, five days after the floods. In Paiporta, home to around 30.000 people, many neighborhoods remain clogged with debris, vehicles, and mud.
More than 200 people died in the floods on Tuesday, with water and mud destroying thousands of homes.
