At the meeting of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of the 29th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, held in the Srebrenica Memorial Center, they discussed activities in preparation for the commemoration of the anniversary.
The organizing committee welcomed the adoption of the Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica by the UN General Assembly and thanked all those who contributed to the adoption of the Resolution.
At the session, the draft program for marking the anniversary was adopted, and the Chairman of the Committee, Hamdija Fejzić, pointed out that the preparations are proceeding according to plan.
“In the coming days, there will probably be some additions to the commemoration program, and in a couple of weeks we will adopt the final program. Basically, the team that worked in previous years is still working now. We don’t have much time left, but I believe that everything will be ready for the anniversary marking. “We have an obligation to the victims. Preparations are underway for all the activities. The focus is also on the Peace March, because this year is the 20th anniversary of the first Peace March,” said Fejzić.
It is assumed that more than five thousand participants will take part in this year’s “March of Peace”.
“Applications are ongoing. I have to point out that there have been a lot of inquiries about the security situation, and I hereby point out that the situation is good and that there are absolutely no obstacles for those interested to apply and participate in the Peace March. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the first March of peace and that is our focus,” said the president of the subcommittee for the “March of Peace” Suljo Čakanović.
According to information from the Institute for Missing Persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, 11 victims of the genocide have been identified so far and will find their eternal rest on July 11 in Potočari, Fena writes.
