Pakistan has announced that it has recommended the United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, as recognition for what it described as his “decisive” diplomatic intervention during the recent Pakistan-India crisis, according to an official statement released on Saturday.
Islamabad stated that Trump’s intervention helped calm tensions and prevent a broader conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, which could have had catastrophic consequences for millions of people in the region and beyond.
“In a moment of heightened regional turbulence, President Trump demonstrated great strategic foresight and exceptional statesmanship through robust diplomatic engagement with Islamabad and New Delhi, which de-escalated a rapidly deteriorating situation,” the statement said, adding that “this intervention testifies to his role as a true peacemaker and his commitment to resolving conflicts through dialogue.”
At the peak of hostilities between India and Pakistan last month, triggered by the April 22nd attack in Indian-administered Kashmir, Trump announced on May 10th that the U.S. had mediated a ceasefire, saying he had prevented a potential nuclear war through the use of trade and direct diplomacy between the two South Asian nuclear-armed nations.
The latest development came after Trump met with Pakistan’s military chief, General Asim Munir, at the White House on Wednesday.
Pakistan further said that it “recognizes and deeply appreciates President Trump’s sincere offers to help resolve the longstanding Jammu and Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan.”
“Lasting peace in South Asia will remain elusive until the United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir are implemented,” the statement emphasized.
However, during a phone call with Trump on Wednesday, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated that India will not accept third-party mediation in its relations with Pakistan.
