Several pellet producers sued Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) seeking compensation for lost profits due to the months-long export ban.
To recall, due to the energy crisis and large price increase, the Council of Ministers of BiH banned the export of wood and wood products in the middle of last year.
The ban lasted until the end of January this year, and pellet producers have repeatedly expressed their dissatisfaction with it, pointing out that their already contracted deals with foreign buyers have been called into question.
They also announced lawsuits, and now they have realized those announcements.
”A certain group of producers filed a lawsuit against the Court of BiH with the aim of compensation for damages. The ban on exports has caused enormous damage to us. We lost customers and the market, we had to return the advances received from abroad and in the end we don’t know where this industry will go next,” said the representative of the pellet producers Goran Ivanovic.
”Our estimates show that between 50 and 80 companies in BiHwere directly affected by this decision,” he said.
Secretary of the Association of Forestry and Wood Processing in the Chamber of Commerce of the Republika Srpska (RS), Lazo Sinik, also confirmed that some large producers have filed lawsuits against BiH.
”They believe that this decision caused damage to them because they already had contracts with foreign customers and lost the expected profit,” explained Sinik, Biznis Info reports.
