The Republika Srpska Pension and Disability Insurance Fund will stop paying pensions on the basis of the power of attorney given to the Fund as of May this year. Payments will be made exclusively to the name and personal account of the beneficiary.
The director of the PIO Fund, Mladen Milić, says for Fena news agency that there is an alternative for pensioners who are immobile and sick, and that is giving a power of attorney to a third party to withdraw pensions from a bank or post office account.
Currently, it is possible to pay a pension to the account of a third party on the basis of a power of attorney submitted to the PIO RS Fund.
Milić explains that such a decision was made due to numerous abuses.
According to the data of the PIO RS Fund, many cases of abuse of power of attorney have been recorded, which most often involve the use of power of attorney without the knowledge or consent of the beneficiary, then the use of outdated power of attorney, submission of falsified documentation, as well as situations in which attorneys do not inform the Fund of changes in the beneficiary’s residence, bank change or switching to another method of pension payment, untimely notification of the death of the beneficiary, as well as the continuation of pension withdrawal even though the legal conditions for payment have ended.
