PM of the Federation of BiH: The EU must not be too strict

By adopting the law on preventing conflicts of interest in the institutions of BiH this week, we would be one step closer to fulfilling all the requirements that the European Union has put before BiH in order to obtain a positive response for the start of accession negotiations, the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH Nermin Nikšić told Dnevni Avaz.

“As always, the negotiations are difficult and exhaustive, but it is important that we all approach them openly, with the sincere intention of bringing the adopted solutions closer to European standards,” said Nikšić.

He reminds that changes to the Election Law, which also require changes to the Constitution of BiH, are not one of the conditions for opening negotiations, but are an obligation from the 14 priorities of the European Commission.

“If we adopt the law on the prevention of conflicts of interest, the only thing that remains is the law on courts to fulfill all the prerequisites one hundred percent. However, I think that the EU cannot and must not be too strict towards BiH. We are not running away from our obligations, but the EU should also recognize the fact that we are in adopted more reform laws in the last year than in the entire previous mandates,” said Nikšić.
