Poland protested over the Mistake of the President of the EU Commission

Poland protested today over a mistake made by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in a post on social media that suggested that the Nazi camp Auschwitz was Polish.

Von der Leyen’s post on the “X” platform was later corrected and it was stated that Auschwitz was a Nazi death camp.

“When you write about the Nazi death camp Auschwitz, it should be emphasized that it was established under the occupation of Germany,” Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski said in a message on “X”.

According to Polish law, it is punishable to accuse Poles of Nazi crimes committed on Polish territory.

Yesterday, the world marked the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Holocaust, which was established in 2005 by a resolution of the UN General Assembly.

January 27, the day when Soviet Army units liberated the largest Nazi concentration camp in 1945 – Auschwitz, was chosen as the date of commemoration, i.e. the memory of the millions of victims who died in the Holocaust during the Second World War.
