Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk and President of the Police Union Board of Sarajevo Canton Saim Smajlovićsigned today a new Collective Agreement between the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the Police Union of Sarajevo Canton.
The agreement will last for two years and, compared to the previous one, introduces improved conditions for police officersperforming high-risk jobs. They will receive a 45 percent allowance, instead of the previous 40 percent.
Minister of Interior Admir Katica explained that previouscollective agreements ensured that these allowances are the highest in the region, which is fully justified given the seriousness and scope of duties performed by the Sarajevo Canton police.
“The new collective agreement increases the allowance from 40 to 45 percent for about 80 percent of police officers, mostly those in lower ranks. In addition, police officers are entitled to compensation for overtime work, work on weekly rest days, night shifts, and work on public holidays. A newly-appointed police officer of the lowest rank, without years of service, with this compensation, including overtime and night work, can earn over 2,100 BAM,” explained Minister Katica.
The salary of the police officers is tied to their rank. The salary consists of a base salary and an allowance, which reflects the nature of their work, its complexity, risk, responsibility, the authority they exercise, and positions that require specific security authorizations.
Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton Nihad Uk said that significant progress has been made in improving the materials and technical conditions for police officers in recent years.
“From acquiring new uniforms, vehicles, and equipment, to hiring over 460 police officers since 2023, as well as unblocking the promotion process, these measures directly contribute to a higher level of security in our canton and country. They also help improve the socioeconomic position of police officers,” he said.
