Police officers of the Police Directorate of the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton have ten new mobile radars that simultaneously enable the measurement of vehicle speed, precise recording of violations, identification of license plates, as well as high-quality photo and video recordings that serve as evidence in misdemeanor proceedings.
These are sophisticated radar systems of the TruCAM type, and their acquisition is a continuation of planned activities to improve safety in the field of traffic, and increase the level of safety of all traffic participants. Mobile radars are already used by police officers of the Traffic Unit, as well as all police stations in the Sarajevo Canton, and their use was preceded by training that was organized with the aim of familiarizing them with the devices and their efficient application.
The new mobile radars available to the Ministry of Interior of the Sarajevo Canton measure speed in the range of up to 320 km/h, at a distance of up to 1,200 meters. The devices can be mobile or stationary if they are placed on a support (tripod), they work in all atmospheric conditions (rain, snow, fog), while in the case of night work they have an additional infrared illuminator – a flashlight that emits light in the infrared spectrum and is invisible to the human eye. The devices have a memory that can store about 5,000 records, and any possibility of the human factor is excluded because the contents/offences once stored cannot be changed or deleted by the police officer handling the device.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Admir Katica, the procurement of mobile radars is part of a broader strategy to improve the situation in the area of traffic safety in Sarajevo Canton.
“Exceeding the speed limit is still one of the leading causes of traffic accidents in the Sarajevo Canton. The fact that in the first nine months of this year, the police issued up to 700 misdemeanor sanctions per day for speeding is alarming. Cameras, radars, and interceptors are all measures that we have introduced with the aim of increasing the safety of all traffic participants, including new mobile radars that will contribute to more efficient sanctioning of perpetrators, reducing the number of traffic accidents, and improving the overall quality of work of police officers,” emphasized Minister Katica.
The focus of the new mobile radars will be on risky locations, school zones, parts of the city where a higher number of traffic accidents have been recorded, as well as all areas where speeding is statistically recorded.
