Pope Francis has warned that violence in schools is preparing students for war, not peace.
Speaking to some 2,000 Italian teachers, educators and parents, the pope asked them to commit to fighting violence both at school and at home.
The pope praised actions in schools that promote peace, noting that “imagining peace” lays the foundations for a “more just and fraternal world” through “every subject taught and through the creativity of children and young people”.
“But if you wage war among yourselves or engage in bullying at school, you are preparing for war, not peace,” he said.
The pope also called for more dialogue within families, stressing that “dialogue is what makes us grow”.
