“Considering the harsh weather conditions with sub-zero temperatures, rain and snow in Una-Sana Canton, we are glad that we can provide much-needed support to at least 1,000 children in the form of winter clothes, boots, blankets and other items to keep them warm. At the same time it is absolute priority that refugees and migrants, in particular families with children and unaccompanied children, are accommodated in winter proof and safe places. Any further exposure to the cold weather will seriously jeopardize their health situation and wellbeing.” – said Alwin Nijholt, UNICEF BiH Deputy Representative.
The support includes blankets for babies, over 2,000 pairs of winter boots and socks and about 1,000 sets of winter jackets, hats, scarves and gloves for children. In close collaboration with the Service for Foreigners’ Affairs, IOM and the Red CrossSociety of Bosnia and Herzegovina, UNICEF will ensure that all these items benefit refugee and migrant children across the country.
UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, to build a better world for everyone.
