President Donald Trump said today that the United States has successfully carried out a large-scale attack on Venezuela. Trump said in a statement via his Truth Social network that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife have been “captured” and taken out of the country.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale attack on Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been captured and taken out of the country with his wife. This operation was carried out in conjunction with US law enforcement agencies. Details will be announced later. A press conference will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention on this matter. President Donald J. Trump,” the US president wrote on his network.
Trump made this statement after explosions were heard in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, and low-flying aircraft were spotted overnight. US media previously reported that President Trump had ordered strikes on locations in Venezuela, including military facilities, while neither the White House nor the Pentagon had officially announced Trump’s statement.
In a brief interview with the NYT, Trump called the operation brilliant.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez is safe.
Also, the Minister of Defense, whose house was also attacked, Vladimir Padrino Lopez, addressed the public and said that he would not negotiate or surrender and that in the end he would win.
