Progress in Gender Equality in BiH

ravnopravnost polovaThe BiH report on gender equality pointed out that, when it comes to women’s rights and gender equality, significant progress was made, but it is still necessary to actively work in this area, it was announced from the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of  BiH.

BiH delegation, today, will be in New York as a member of the United Nations, at a meeting of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.

 Although the situation is not significantly better or worse than other members of the UN, some data in certain areas are still not satisfactory, was written in the report.

Women are under-represented in positions of decision-making, and as a recent study on the prevalence and characteristics of violence against women in Bosnia showed, every other woman in their life will experience some form of violence physical, psychological, sexual or economic.

Concerns are  when it comes to domestic violence statistics, considering that  this is a domestic violence within the community where women should feel safest, the report said, adding that women largely remain excluded from the labor market.

Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women after constructive dialogue on the specific situation in BiH, will announce the conclusions and recommendations, which will oblige BiH for further activities in the field of gender equality and women’s rights.

The delegation of BiH, consists of representatives of the entity gender centers, led by the director of the Agency for Gender Equality Samra Hadžiabdić Filipović.
