The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton – Police Directorate has announced a competition to fill vacant police officer positions in the initial rank of “POLICE”, for 220 officers.
The competition will be open for 30 days and is available at http://www.mup.ks.gov.ba, and candidates who wish to apply cannot be older than 27 years old, must have completed secondary school of the 4th level of education, be physically and mentally capable of performing police work and must not have any security problems in accordance with the established level of secrecy for this position.
This competition comes immediately after the employment of 238 police officers in the middle of this month, who applied in December 2023. At the same time, the competition procedure for another 158 candidates (according to the competition from November 2024) is coming to an end, who will be sent for training at the Police Academy by the end of this year.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Admir Katica, a total of 461 new police officers have been employed in the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs – Police Directorate since 2023. “I believe that the introduction of a modern and transparent recruitment procedure for the police is our greatest success, because now we can rightly say that only the best personnel enter the police,” said Minister Katica.
“The police officers we have recruited have joined the ranks of the police because they were the best, the most capable, and they spared no effort to achieve their goal. I invite young people, ready to make this their life’s calling, to apply for the competition for the honorable profession of a police officer. Our expectations from them are that they be motivated, professional, responsible, but also courageous and persistent enough and, most importantly, principled in enforcing the law,” added the Minister.
The functional work of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior is of vital importance for the Sarajevo Canton, and one of the most important prerequisites is the adequate staffing of this security body, so the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, at the proposal of Minister Admir Katica, in June of this year adopted the Decision on granting consent to the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior to conduct a public competition for filling vacant positions and employing police officers in the rank of “police officer” for 220 officers.
Candidates who meet the requirements of the public competition will take general knowledge exams based on questions that are published on the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Interior website at the beginning of the calendar year. This is followed by physical fitness tests, medical examinations, and security checks. Candidates who meet all of the above are sent for training at the Police Academy.
The intensive recruitment of new police personnel is intended to replace the retirement of a large number of police officers, and the ultimate goal is to hire up to 1,000 new police officers by the end of 2026, the Cantonal Ministry of Interior announced.
