Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday increased the number of soldiers in the Russian forces by about 170,000, bringing the number of military personnel to more than 2.2 million.
Putin signed a decree increasing the personnel of the Russian Armed Forces to 2,209,130, including 1,320,000 soldiers, the Kremlin announced today.
The decision entered into force on the day of signing the decision.
According to Putin’s decree, which took effect on January 1, the army had 2,039,758 personnel, including 1,150,628 soldiers.
Compared to the previous regulation, the number of soldiers increased by 169,372.
The Ministry of Defense announced that despite the increase in the number of soldiers, there is no plan for a significant increase in mobilization.
It is said that the number of soldiers has been increased due to the growth of threats related to the “special military operation” in Ukraine and the expansion of NATO.
The increase in the Armed Forces is considered a reaction to NATO activities.
