The Mayor of Bužim Municipality Mersudin Nanić and Fojnica Sabahudin Klisura, during their official visit to Doha, the capital of the State of Qatar, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), which officially allocated five million dollars for one of the most important infrastructure projects in the last decade in the area of the municipalities of Bužim, Breza and Fojnica.

This is a joint memorandum with three BiH municipalities – Bužim, Fojnica and Breza, and the project is being implemented through the Government of the State of Qatar with the mediation of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) in the total amount of 5 million Qatari dollars.

This investment will directly contribute to improving the water supply system for a large number of households, which is one of the long-standing priorities of these local communities.

“This is a proud moment for Bužim. The signing of this contract with the Qatar Fund for Development is not only an infrastructural step forward – this is proof that the vision of our municipality’s development also has international support. I would like to especially thank Ms. Bisera Turković, who, as the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, initiated this story for our three municipalities, as well as Director General Fahad bin Hamad Al Sulaiti and the QFFD team for understanding the needs of our citizens and the trust they have shown us. With this act, Bužim shows that even small municipalities can be great partners when they have clear goals and a strong will. We continue with concrete projects because our proud and chivalrous Bužim deserves it,” said Mayor Mersudin Nanić.

Mayor Sabahudin Klisura said that the project includes the replacement of asbestos pipes, which were worn out and had been a long-standing problem in the water supply of the Fojnica municipality.

“This project will ensure a safer and better quality water supply for the municipality of Fojnica. Of course, I would like to especially thank Ms. Bisera Turković, who, as the then Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was the initiator of these projects for our three municipalities, and of course the Qatar Fund for supporting us in the implementation of these projects.”

The formal ceremony of signing the memorandum was held in the presence of high-ranking guests H.E. Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al Thani, brother of the Emir of Qatar and Chairman of the QFFD Board of Directors, and H.E. Mrs. Maryam bint Ali Al Misnad, Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, other high-ranking officials of the Government of the State of Qatar, as well as heads of foreign embassies in Qatar.
In addition to signing this important memorandum, Mayor Nanić and Klisura will hold a series of meetings with representatives of Qatari development funds, investors and state institutions during their stay in Qatar, with the aim of opening additional opportunities for investment in the economic development of these local communities.
