Ramiz Nukic from the village of Buljim in the municipality of Bratunac has been searching for the remains of the people of Srebrenica killed in July 1995 on forest paths, mined and inaccessible areas for more than 20 years. He went through that journey himself and survived.
He dedicated his life to finding the remains, of which he handed over almost 300 to the Institute for Searching the Missing. Although he has difficult life, he never asked for money for everything he does.
Ramiz is now seriously ill and admitted to the Clinic for Pulmonary Diseases of the Tuzla University Clinical Center.
On that occasion, Emir Suljagic, director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, made an appeal on social media to help Ramiz.
“I never do this. But now I want to ask you all to help as much as you can. We all owe Ramiz so much,” wrote Suljagic.
Sarajevo Mayor Benjamina Karic also announced that the City of Sarajevo will allocate certain funds for his treatment.
“The city of Sarajevo will allocate funds from the reserve, and we invite all institutions to join us. It’s time to try to repay Ramiz for everything he has done for us over the years. There are few people like Ramiz among us,” Karic said on social media.
For years, Ramiz Nukic from the village of Kamenica in Bratunac has been collecting the bones of Srebrenica residents killed in July 1995 while they were trying to reach free territory after the fall of Srebrenica. In 2004, he returned to his native village, under Kamenica Hill and the infamous “Bukva”, with his family. From then until today, he has found hundreds of remains of murdered innocent civilians in the forests.
Not even the mined terrain prevented him from searching. In this way, as he once said in an interview, he is trying to help the families of murdered Srebrenica residents who have been searching for the bones of their loved ones for more than two decades.
