The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted at today’s session the draft decision on the ratification of the Agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia on the construction of the South Interconnection gas pipeline, confirmed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković.
The decision was adopted by consensus of all present members of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, on the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reports Fena news agency.
The agreement on the construction of the gas pipeline Southern Interconnection of the Republic of Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina was signed on April 28 in Dubrovnik by the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Borjana Krišto, and the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, during the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative.
The project envisages connecting the gas systems of the two countries in the direction of Split – Zagvozd in Croatia and Posušje – Tomislavgrad – Šuica – Kupres – Bugojno – Novi Travnik/Travnik in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
A route from Posušje via Grud and Široki Brije to Mostar is also planned, with branches to Livno, Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje, Donji Vakuf, Jajce and Čapljina, as well as an additional direction Kladanj – Tuzla.
The southern interconnection should provide BiH with a new direction and source of natural gas supply through Croatia, which would increase the country’s energy security and reduce dependence on the existing supply direction.
The next step in the ratification process is consideration of the decision in the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After possible adoption, the agreement needs to be ratified by both houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after which the BiH Presidency makes a decision on ratification and issues the instrument of ratification.
After the completion of this procedure, the conditions for the continuation of the construction of the South Interconnection gas pipeline project will be met.
The agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia was signed on April 28 in Dubrovnik, and its implementation depends on the completion of the ratification process in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
